Why I chose NKU Honors College and opportunities abroad.

When doing the college selection process it was difficult to find a school that I felt had everything I wanted. Unfortunately, at NKU I was not able to play volleyball. This was an extremely difficult choice for me. Academically NKU offered everything I wanted and needed with a fully paid opportunity to study abroad in China and Japan. I chose NKU due to the academic opportunities it offered and gave up all my volleyball scholarships. I plan to continue with volleyball but in a different way through coaching and adult leagues and possibly try out for the team next year! I made a video to highlight all the good memories and opportunities that helped me make my final college decisions to attend the school that was the best fit for me.

NKU
Currently, Nothern Kentucky University is one of my top choices for college. This university allows me to get a double major in both my subjects. At NKU I also have a full-tuition scholarship due to the Governor's Scholar Program and was accepted into the honors program..
Why Nothern?
As I continue my college education I plan on playing volleyball at the collegiate level. The scholarships I obtain from volleyball will play a large role in where I continue my college education.

GSC
Glenville State College is my second choice in colleges at the moment. GSC is known for its sciences particularly biology. At this school, I have almost a full ride to play Division II volleyball and start for their varsity program as a middle blocker.

KYSU
With my recent ACT score, I have been accepted and offered a full ride through the Governor Scholar to Kentucky State University. This is also a school I may be able to play volleyball for.

College Visits
Mount Saint. Joseph University
In November 2019 I visited Mount Saint. Joseph University campus in Cinncinati, Ohio. During this visit, I was able to tour the whole campus and see dorms, classrooms, study rooms, and athletics. I met with an advisor, athletes, and Head Volleyball Coach Mr. Spinney. During my tour of the campus, I really enjoyed the small community MSJ had. Due to the smaller size of the campus and the student-teacher ratio in the classes, I would have more one on one with professors. This is one of my favorite things about the university. I also really enjoyed the athletic atmosphere the college had as well. I believe this college would be a great school for me and what I am looking for.
College Visits
Bellarmine University

This summer I spent 5 weeks at Bellarmine University for the Governor Scholars Program. During these 5 weeks, I was able to stay in a dorm on campus, attend classes, meet staff, and see campus life. During my stay at Bellarmine, I enjoyed many things such as the small campus, the science building, professors, and dorms. During my time at Bellarmine, I found the campus to be very beautiful, besides the giant hill from the dorms to the classrooms. I believe this school would be a good fit for me because of the small classroom environment and because of its driven student environment.

Centre College
On January 17, 2020, I took my first official College tour of Centre's Campus. Before my official campus visit, I had the opportunity to see their campus summer of 19' with the Governor's Scholar Program. 2019 Scholars were the first group since before the 2000s to meet up on one campus during the duration of the program. Due to this, I was already a little familiar with the campus. During my official visit, I was able to take a full tour of the campus and see the dorms, different classrooms, speak with admissions, and meet the volleyball coach. Centre College is a Division III school and offered me a management position for their varsity team. I was invited by the coach for the visit. The coach introduced me to other players on the team and toured me around the athletics of the campus. My favorite part of touring Centre College was not only meeting the coach but seeing the beautiful campus.

Kentucky State University
On January 29, 2020, I had the opportunity to do an unofficial visit with the volleyball coach at Kentucky State University. Before the new year, I was accepted to KYSU and awarded a full-ride scholarship to the university. Kentucky State University is one of my top choices in schools due to the scholarship amount awarded, location, major opportunities, and volleyball. KYSU is a NCAA Division II school. Being able to meet the coach, meet other players, see the campus, and watch the team in action was an amazing opportunity. On-campus I was able to see the student environment and witness classes in real-time with teammates. I found that my favorite thing about the university was the friendly environment from the students and staff, but also the student to teacher ratio 1-13. Kentucky State University is an excellent school for my academic and athletic interests, I am hoping to be able to pursue both of these here on my full-ride scholarships.

Northern Kentucky University
On February 29, 2020 I had the opportunity to tour Northern Kentucky University while attending the Honors College tour. While on campus I was able to learn a lot about the staff and goals of the Honors College. While on my tour I was able to see the premed and biology courses along with their professors. I really enjoyed the variety of professors to choose from when it came to high-level courses like organic chemistry and calculus. One thing that really stood out to me about this program was the amount of opportunities for research that I could do for my journey to medical school. I felt like this really gave me a choice to do something that I would truly enjoy and was interested in. While on campus I was also invited by the dean from the UK College of Medicine to tour the campus that is now located and in its first year at NKU. This was my favorite part of my time on campus. At the College of Medicine I was able to not only see the campus but talk to doctors and first-year students about the rigorous process of getting into medical school and the lifestyle they now live. The student who was my tour guide was able to answer all my questions and was extremely helpful and informative. From this tour, I have decided that the NKU campus of the UK College of Medicine is the medical school I plan to attend. This year's first class is small with only 35 students, which is great for one on one learning with other doctors and their professors. Northern Kentucky University is an amazing school and being a part of the Honors College will allow me so many opportunities. Northern Kentucky University is not only one of my top choices because of academics but because I have been awarded a full-tuition scholarship and get an additional $1,700 to attend this university.

Glenville State College
In February 2020 I had the opportunity to take a college visit to Glenville State College. I was invited to tour and try out for the volleyball team by head coach Madison Gargus. GSC is an NCAA Division II school in Glenville, West Virginia. While on my tour I was able to see the campus and all athletic facilities. My favorite part about Glenville besides the amazing volleyball program was the family-like environment and the great facilities for students. I was invited to play for the Glenville State College volleyball varsity team as a middle blocker and make an immediate impact on the program. I was awarded a scholarship to play volleyball as a top recruit that covers tuition and living. I really loved the volleyball team and the amazing gym. One thing that I did not enjoy about the college was the lack of variety or professors for higher-level courses and that some classes like calculus are not offered every semester. This could make it hard for me to pick courses that could help me stand out as a good candidate for medical school or possibly prolong my schooling.

College
As I continue my college education I plan to work a part-time job during the semester to keep up with any expenses I may have. If I'm playing volleyball at the collegiate level during my fall semester, I will take off work to focus on my studies and return in the spring semester. The work I plan to continue in college is with geriatrics or in primary care using my CNA license. This will allow me to make money and still keep working in healthcare and work toward my goal as well as continued experience

College IDGP and Transfer Plan
The college I chose to do my transfer plan and IDGP was my top choice of Northern Kentucky University. In the Excel sheet is the classes according to the website that will transfer from KCTCS. I soon plan to meet an advisor to get an official list of what courses will transfer. In my brochure, you will see my scholarships and KEES and my financial plan if I were to attend Northern. To the right are the two documents containing the transfer plan and brochure.
